The Horseman on the Roof

Le Hussard
sur le toit

A film by Jean-Paul Rappeneau

From the director of Cyrano de Bergerac comes this sumptuous romantic epic based on the classic novel by Jean Giono. An instant success at the French Box office, Le hussard sur le toit (The Horseman on the Roof) was nominated for 10 Cesar Awards, including a sixth Best Actress nomination for Juliette Binoche.

It’s 1832 and southern France is ravaged by a cholera epidemic that’s sweeping through the towns and villages. Italian soldier Angelo Pardi has escaped his Austrian enemies and fled to rural Provence where he searches for comrades and avoids his would-be assassins.

He accidentally meets and is then aided by a beautiful and mysterious noblewoman, Pauline de Theus (Juliette Binoche), whom he vows to protect
as she searches the countryside for her missing husband. As they embark on
a thrilling and perilous quest they struggle to contain their growing feelings for each other.

Filled with action, passion and breathtaking cinematography, Le hussard sur le toit is a gripping and thrilling spectacle.
